Does anyone else own this gentle breed? My Great Danes get along so well with this big guy. Just wondered if anyone else had one. Of course we have a Jack
Russel too and it owns all my big dogs..LOL Have you notice that your little dogs run the show?

I have noticed that, I have two Rotts, 2 Danes, and my little man is a Japanese Chin, dont get close to his food or his toys, he will let you know whos boss.
He beats up on my 4 month oldd Dane like he is the one that is going to be 33" tall someday.

i watched a special on PBS once on dog behaviors... there was one segment that was studying a theory that the dog that pees 'highest on the post' is
considered 'bigger' and therefore higher in pack order... explains why the little dogs are always bending in a crazy ways to get their pee way up
there... and the danes... the boys i've known are too lanky to really get a leg up & pee more like a girl or only have a leg 2in off the ground, lol.
ike, 25 lb mutt, is mostly in charge around here. but he is also 9 1/2 and i do certain things (like feed him first) to help him have higher status so that the danes will back off him if he feels threatened. i've liked the mastiff's i've met. never had one myself. talk about slobber!
if i told a story about my dogs... here they are!

I have 2. Mastiffs are awesome. Here is Duke-Apricot Male, 2 years 3 months, 213 lbs, 33.5" Tall
Here is Tank- Brindle Nuetered, 3 years 6 months, 155lbs 29" Tall
They are lazy, sling drool everywhere, but are the most attached and loving dogs. Guardsmanship is superb. I never worry when I work nights and my wife is here alone. Tank barks to alert the big red man. Tank is the top dog just because of his age, but he knows not to start a fight with Duke who is 60 pounds heavier and a mountain of muscle. They are much different than Danes as Im finding out as little thor grows. Dont get a mastiff expecting dane qualities. |

My little girl is the boss here too. Like woof, I do certain things to ensure she stays that way, not only because she is older, but smaller and I want the
big girls to have a healthy respect for her. When we got Isis we were pretty much looking for any giant breed, bf wanted a mastiff, I wanted another dane. I
am really glad we ended up w/ another dane, because the bf can hardly stand the small amount of drool that Isis has, I would hate to see him w/ a mastiff, st.
bernard, etc. I do love their personalities though, very similar to the dane, except even more couch potato-ey if that is possible. madchemist: your mastiffs
are beautiful, I especially love that dark brindle, I wish the dane standard called for them to be that dark, it is so gorgeous.

I don't have experience with the English or Neo Mastiff, but I did foster a Bullmastiff, a cross between the English and the bull dog. Very gentle dog to
people and to dogs it knows. It does get a little tense when the BM meets a new dog and one needs to be ready for the unexpected fight. Here is a picture of
Bob meeting another one of my fosters named Pokey. Pokey has excellent canine body language and was able to handle Bob just right.
But once Bob knows the dogs, he is very playful.

Wow you can really see Bob's dominant stiff pose. He is hansome, I love that ripped muscular look, yes I am still talking about dogs here.

I don't have an English Mastiff, but Harley's best friend at puppy play time is a English Mastiff named Murphy. They are about the same age,
Harley's a lot taller but Murphy gets him in the weight department. We weight them both today after play time...Harley 125 lbs, Murphy was 140 lbs. They
get alone so well, but boy Murphy is so laid back he's tired after about 15 mins. Heck, Harley's just getting started by then. Great dogs, I would
love to have one.
