Doug's aunt's female dog(outside dog Coco) have heartworm. She was tested positive for heartworm when aunt shirley took Coco to get her spayed last
year. She just told me about it. Shirley told me it was just too expensive for the treatment so Coco is not getting any treatment for it. We take our dogs
over to Shirley's house all the time since Doug's brother and his family live right next to Shirley. Is it okay for my dogs to be around the heartworm
positive dog? They are on k9 advantix that include heartworm prevention but Im little scared.

That is awful that they are not treating the heartworms.... That dog will most likely die because of it, and it won't be a comfortable and pain-free
death.. =/ *insert rant about how people who can't afford to care for their pets should not own any*
Your dogs won't get heartworms from her as long as they are on a heartworm preventative. I probably would not want my dogs around in general though unless your aunt keeps her dog up to date on vaccination... |

I wouldn't allow mine anywhere near that poor dog. Prevenative treatment or not, I wouldn't take the chance. If she doesn't care enough about her
dog to treat for heartworm, what other things is she too cheap to manage?

Heartworm is transmitted through mosquito bites. An infected mosquito has to bite your
dog, it can't be contracted directly from another dog. The chance of a dog contracting HW while on preventative is very low.

I stop taking my dogs over there now. I dont think she is up to date on shots either. This dog used to be my niece Katelyn but they didnt take care of it and
got pregnant by the male dog Shirley had. Her puppies didnt make it since they werent really taken care of. Shirley decided to keep her and didnt want another
puppies so she got her spayed. That when she find out the dog got heartworm. it was going to be over $400 for treatment so she just told the vet to spay her. I
think this dog is about 3 to 4 years old. How long does she have to live? She is getting fat lately. I thought she was pregnant for while even she was spayed.
what is the symptons of heartworm? I will be around this dog since Doug is working on his brother's house. I'd love to help this dog out but I cant afford to help someone else's dog. I dont think Shirley want to put this dog to sleep, but she dont want to treat her so I think she need to know how her dog is going suffer. Maya ![]()

Even though K9 Advantix does repel, and kill mesquitoes you should have your dogs on Iverheart Plus, or something similar such as Heartgaurd.. I would not
trust K9 advantix to treat for HW by its self, and if your Dane babies do get HW, Bayer will not help cover payment for treatment such as Virbac AH inc..
would. If your babies are not taking any HW preventative I would have your babies tested and put on HW preventitive ASAP.. But thats just my opinion..
Take care Nick, Zeus, and Ares |
