Not a problem! I love showing them all off! We're going back tomorrow, and we're going to take Oreo along as well. I can't wait until I have the spare money to start her formal training and get her CGC and get her therapy certified. Naomi is going to do so well as a therapy dog.

Well, the only thing I've taught her so far is "sit", and we did that a few times while we were there. She doesn't like the liver treats, but she'll work for "puppy crack" -- lamb and rice logs broken into pieces from Petsmart. Now that I figured that out, I take the treat sack everywhere we go, Petsmart, dog park, anywhere. I couldn't compete with the guinea pigs though . . . they won over even the puppy crack!

We have a clicker, and a book of clicker training exercises, including when exactly to click and treat, and everything. Practically takes care of your timing for you. I just have to sit down with her and work with her. Finally found a treat she likes to work for, and that happened two days ago. Before, she'd get bored with the liver biscuits and not really want to work for them. She would, but only for about 3 minutes or so, then she'd try and find something more interesting to do, making it hard for me to end on a positive note. Step one: find a treat she'll work for: accomplished. Taught her her name and sit with the clicker. We were working on "come" last time I was working with her. Now when I say "Naomi, come", she'll at least look up at me and start moving. I have to say it a few more times before she actually comes (if she's laying down), but it's progress. She does know "No" (which means stop whatever she's doing and look at me for direction, and has the same response as "Leave it" as well). Wrong word, but when she was pouncing on the cats, it was the first thing that came to my brain, and she learned it so well that I can't really change it now. She doesn't like listening on the leash outside, so we were doing some inside on-leash work with our last session. Walking is very important for us, as we take her a lot of places, so I guess it shows in our training. We're doing really well with the loose leash part unless she sees something that interests her. Like guinea pigs at Petsmart, lol. The guinea pigs were the only thing I wasn't able to correct her with, so I made her sit, and once she did, her reward was checking out the little critters. Seeing as she turns into a brick on the leash, getting her to accomplish anything with a leash on is a big deal for us. They were babies and chasing each other everywhere and occasionally jumping and spinning, and she was just enthralled. Nose on the glass (well, milimeters away from the glass) and everything. It was so cute. Seeing as our other dogs keep our back yard free of mice and rats (there's a HUGE field behind our house where they breed), I guess she's learned to look at anything small and fuzzy as a tug-o-war toy, because once Kira kills them, that's exactly what they do with them, until we notice and run and take the carcass away.
