We have a 4 month old who we've been crate training since we got him at 9 weeks old. He sleeps in it at night with no problems at all. In fact, he goes up there (its in our bedroom) before we do at night to go to bed sometimes. The problem occurs when I need to leave him in there during the day. I don't work and I take him with me to pick up the kids from school or little errands. But I can't take him everywhere, so I use the crate. He tears up the crate, bedding is thrown all over and all around the front of the crate where the door is is soaked (I assume from him trying the bite/lick it to get out??). This morning my DS put him in there and only locked the top lock (won't happen again!!) of the crate so he squeezed himself out along the bottom, scratching himself up in the process. My concern is that for now he is small (60ish pounds) but at 180+ he is going to knock the crate over or break it! I have tried to put bones/toys/kongs in there with him but he never touches them. I have to crate him, we are in a rental and if he destroys something we're gonna have BIG problems. There is no place that I have to confine him really, aside from a bathroom but he would hate that even more than the crate. Any Ideas, I'm at a loss!
