Ok, I still have about 8 weeks until I have my baby boy dane but I have been putting in endless hours of research into every aspect of danes. I know there are millions of threads on here about the best food choices and protein levels for dane puppies and I have read through most of them. However, I am reading conflicting thoughts on if a higher protein level is ok if it is coming from all meat (I would like to stick with a grain free diet for my pup). I know the general thought is no more than 25% protein and the proper 1.2:1.0 cal/phos ratio in a high quality adult kibble. However, is it now being considered to be more accepted that if the food is grain free that the protein level can be a little higher since it is not coming from a grain source? I am just trying to rule out any myths that may be floating around so that I can pick the very best food for my baby. Most of the brands I would like to feed that are really high end grain free kibble tend to have a higher protein level than suggested. Who would have thought picking the right food would be the most stressful part of preparing for a dane pup, lol. All thoughts are welcome, and hopefully this will guide me towards a food I am comfortable feeding and will be best for a dane pup.
