With the winter season kicking in I thought I should post, looking for ideas.
I am in New England, and while im at work the dog is outside, typically 9-4pm sometimes later, New England winters are very cold!!!!!
I built my dane a lovely large dog house, it has thick insulated walls, and a door that swings shut so its never left open. During the winter I have been using a dog house K9 heater, I was wondering about beefing it up this year. I was thinking of getting one of those portable oil filled radiators for his dog house, like I said its quite big and will fit one of these.
Any thoughts? I had thought of heat lamps etc but they have caused dog house fires, whereas the radiator has overheat protection etc
I had to remove all his bedding, I had a memory foam mattress in there, these were expensive, about $400, and he ripped them up, twice, AND THEY STINK NO MATTER WHAT I DO OR HOW MANY TIMES I WASH HIM,
So I am looking for some new bedding ideas. I had thought of cedar or pine saw dust to help with the smell and give him comfort, but ive heard it causes respiratory problems and is not good for bedding in terms of comfort.
What about hay or straw?? I dont think this would be a fire hazard for an oil filled radiator.
I heard the straw needs to be changed every 3-4 days...... Plus living in the city this may be difficult to get.
Any ideas for bedding???
Any support for the portable radiator idea?? Should keep him lovely and warm.
